Papers On Law Enforcement and Intelligence
(Page 8)
Tarnished Badges – The History of Corruption in the
Police Department :
A 6 page essay that traces the history of
the American police department and the corruption that has
hindered it from its early beginnings. A look at early police
involvement with politics is included, as well as a look at the
corruption that resulted from the association of the department
with organized crime during America’s prohibition era.
Bibliography lists 4 sources. LCPolice.wps

The Nation’s Police Departments: Are They Black, White
or Blue?:
An 8 page paper discussing the true level of
integration—that of attitude—within the nation’s police forces.
In large cities, the police force is more likely to be organized
along racial lines rather than simply being “blue.” Such is not
the case in smaller towns, however, and the populations of all
those towns add up. Small-town America appears to have a
much more workable grasp on the issue of race, and the
combined population is much greater than are the combined
populations of the three or four largest of American cities where
police-department racism is a greater issue. In sum, the
collective police force of the nation taken as a whole can be said
to be more “blue” than any other color. Considering the racial
generation gap of public opinion polls, we should be able to
expect that blue hue to grow deeper and more discernible in
coming years. Bibliography lists 14 sources. KSp-race.doc

Police Brutality / The Reality of Necessary Force :
This 5 page paper considers the issue of police brutality, the use
of necessary force, and the claims made within the minority
population that police officers use excessive force when dealing
with the criminal behaviors of some minorities. This paper also
considers the impacts of police brutality in light of issues like
the Rodney King beating for public policy decision-making.
Bibliography lists 8 sources. MHpolbru.wps

The Value Assumptions in Prison Inequities, Police
Brutality, Violence in the Visiting Venice, Italy :
An 11 page
paper which discusses the many attractive qualities that make
Venice a popular tourist attraction. The physical and cultural
aspects of Venice are discussed in depth, providing the reader
with a very detailed look at the city. Events, lodging, and other
various forms of involvement are also discussed. In addition, the
influence the tourists have, or possibly have, upon the locals is
discussed in regards to how the two can better interact with little
damage or animosity. Bibliography lists 20 sources.

Police Brutality : In 5 pages, the author argues that people
generally form their opinions from the media about police
brutality. The well-known example of the Rodney King
incident is used to show that the media is biased in their
portrayal of the police. The media left out footage of the tape
that was both important and necessary in showing what King
did before the police beat him. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Police Corruption in the City of New Orleans : A 10 page
discussion of police corruption in New Orleans. Provides
numerous statistics and identifies the temptations associated
with drug and gambling related duties coupled with extremely
low pay as the biggest factors in unethical behavior among New
Orleans’ police officers. Bibliography lists 9 sources.

Police Corruption and the Mafia : A 5 page paper that
looks at the impact of Mafia involvement on urban police forces
and the corruption inherent in their interdependent relationship.
A number of examples are utilized to demonstrate the impact of
corruption, including the shooting death of Officer Venditti in
New York, a presumed mob hit. Polimafi.wps police
corruption, police brutality

Police Corruption / Problems & Solutions : A 10 page paper
on the problem of police corruption. Social, educational, and
political reforms are discussed as are the rights of all citizens to
be treated fairly by law enforcement agents and how to go about
ensuring that officers obey the same laws that they are paid to
enforce. Bibliography lists 8 sources. Policorr.wps police
corruption, police brutality
