Descartes / Of Sound Mind and Body ? : This 7 page
paper
seeks to prove the hypothesis: In doubting the truth of every
intellectual proposition, and conversely by transcending doubt
simply through a belief in his own existence, Descartes shows
the flaws in his methods. He requires that his methods be
based on rationality and fundamental truth, but these are
assumed by Descarte and subjective to his whimsy. In all,
Descartes was only rationalizing truth for himself. Therefore,
we must look at scientific inquiry based on Descartes methods
as inherently flawed. Bibliography lists 6 sources. Rene.wps
Descartes / Of Sound Mind and Body ? -- Version 2 :
A 9-page paper postulating that : In doubting the truth of
every intellectual proposition, and conversely by transcending
doubt simply through a belief in his own existence, Descartes
shows the flaws in his methods of deductive reasoning through
the processes of skepticism. He requires that his methods be
based on rationality and fundamental truth, but these are
assumed by Descarte and subjective to his belief systems. In
all, Descartes was only rationalizing truth for himself.
Therefore, we have looked at scientific inquiry based on
Descartes methods as inherently flawed--with some exceptions.

the

Descartes' "Ghost In The Machine": What,
exactly, are the
body, mind and spirit? Are they distinct? Is the mind relegated
to the physical manifestation of gray matter and where is the
spirit located? Four hundred years ago Descartes was
pondering the same questions, although, for him, it was
delineated into the body and mind. Descartes, being a
mathematician, saw the body and mind in concrete terms. The
body was a machine, made of matter and functioning as a
process of re-action, or cause and effect. Descartes was unable
to deny that there was, within him and presumably all others, a
distinct awareness that functioned separate from the body, but
within the logic of pure imagination: the mind. The question of
where the mind was located led him to what has become
known as Cartesian Dualism. This 5 page paper explores the
life of Descartes, his theory of dualism and it's applicability to
today. Bibliography lists 2 sources. KTghosts.wps
