Papers On U.S. History (19th Century)  (Page 7)
The Kentucky & Virginia Resolutions : This 6 page paper
discusses the subject of the Virginia and Kentucky
Resolutions and the their relationship to nullification. The
time periods between the time the acts were passed through
the Civil War are covered. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Secession / Precursor to War : Scholars may argue forever
over the legality of secession, but the fact is that before the
Civil War the vast majority of Americans believed in the
dictum set forth in the Declaration of Independence, that
governments derive their just powers from the consent of the
governed, and that forcing the South to remain in the Union
was therefore tyrannical and immoral This 10 page paper
presents the argument that the secession was a result of three
major political influences. The issue of States Rights, slavery
and the political agenda presented in the person of Abraham
Lincoln. Although the first two were the presenting problems,
the election of Lincoln was the deciding factor to secession.
Bibliography lists 13 sources. Secwar.wps

And the War Came : A 5 page paper discussing the book,
“And the War Came: The North and the Secession Crisis
1860-1861,” by Kenneth M. Stampp. In this book the author
gives an incredibly detailed account of the involvement of
President Lincoln in relationship to the prevalent issues at
hand during the time of the Civil War. No additional sources
are provided. Warcame.wps

Necessities Of War / Civil War & Vietnam War : A 5 page
essay comparing and contrasting some of the many events of
the Civil War and the Vietnam War. Lincoln said that there
were necessities of war. What did he mean? This is the
specific question explored in this essay. Bibliography lists 6
sources. Civiet.wps

Civil War Consequences : The Civil War had little or nothing
to do with the freeing of the slaves. It's purpose was political
and profound in the changes it brought to the economic and
military policies of the United States. This is a 5 page paper
that examines the actual causes of the Civil War, the agenda
of the Lincoln administration and the consequences of these
policies. Bibliography lists 9 sources. Civcons.wps

The Emancipation Proclamation : This 10 page paper
explores the problems with the Emancipation Proclamation.
Events which led up to the creation of the document and its
ultimate effects are noted. Slavery is also discussed from a
Christian perspective. Measures Lincoln could have
implemented which would have been more effective are
explored. The paper takes the position that the proclamation
did not free the slaves which is part of the reason why black
people in America continue to be troubled. Bibliography lists
6 sources Emanproc.wps

Abraham Lincoln / The Man & His Presidency : In 5 pages,
the writer discusses Abraham Lincoln. "Abraham Lincoln was
able to shape the history of the African American. He is the
very emblem against racial injustice and inequality. Most
historical documents present him as the champion of the
African Americans. His views in equality were able to
transcend the race barrier. Lincoln set a precedence by
emancipating the slaves." Bibliography lists 8 sources.

Mary Todd Lincoln : 3 pages in length. Considered to be one
of the most colorful -- if not misunderstood -- of all
presidential first ladies, Mary Todd Lincoln stood tall for
what she believed and ended up paying a high price
throughout her entire life for her outspoken and opinionated
manner. Indeed, she was instrumental in implementing much
positive growth within the country's infrastructure, such as
bringing to light the atrocity of slavery, however, she was not
that well received from her husband's political constituency
on account of her sometimes erratic behavior. Still, it can be
argued that Mary Todd Lincoln helped considerably when it
came to establishing the United States of America as it exists
in contemporary times. The writer discusses the various
aspects of the first lady's life. Annotated bibliography lists 10
sources. TLClinc.wps

19th Century Media Reaction to Lincoln's Gettysburg
Address :
13 pages discussing journalistic accounts of
Lincoln's infamous Gettysburg address just after it was
delivered. No Bibliography available. Gettysbg.wps
