Strategic Defense Initiative & The Cold War : 12
pages in
length. The extent to which the Strategic Defense Initiative
had a role in the negotiations between President Ronald
Reagan and Soviet Union Premier Mikhail Gorbachev is great
and far-reaching. Attempting to regain world peace by
averting the power struggles between the United States and
Russia, it was imperative that Reagan establish a significant
means by which to ease the political tension. Indeed, the
Strategic Defense Initiative or Star Wars, as it was also
known took great strides as a high-tech astro-shield against
nuclear-tipped ballistic missiles that originated from the
Soviet Union. It was directly because of Reagans
considerable show of power that Gorbachev reconsidered his
nations political stance toward the United States. The writer
discusses how the Strategic Defense Initiative was
instrumental in Cold War negotiations between Reagan and
Gorbachev. Bibliography lists 16 sources. Stratdef.wpsPhilosophies of Government in US and World Affairs Since
World War II : A 6 page paper discussing the revisionist,
realist and liberalist relations with the Soviet Union and
NATO, primary players in world politics since the end of
World War II. US involvement with them has fallen into
clear schools of thought, taking several approaches. Those of
revisionism, realism and liberalism are discussed here.
Liberalism has been the rule concerning NATO, and even
ultimate focus of US relations with the former Soviet Union
was that of liberalism. Though necessarily realist in assessing
conditions as they existed, the US did not act from that
perspective at all when Mikhail Gorbechev presented avenues
by which those relations could take on a more liberalist slant.
All of these schools have been used over the decades, but it is
liberalism to which we consistently seem to gravitate.

Cold War Consequences : The Cold War was a war of
ideology that had it's beginnings in the aftermath of World
War II and the redistribution of power. The two great

a balance of power in a world where even the definitions of
peace had changed. The Cold war had the effect of
generating an active defense of American capitalism. Private

commingled in the eyes of the world, much as communism
