The term "boob" refers to someone who is stupid and the term "tube" refers to the fact that televisions,  during the time the term was coined, considered of tubes, primarily the picture tube. Today our televisions do not have such picture tubes, and we do not often refer to  stupid people as boobs so often the term is used without understanding its origins. With this understanding at hand the following paper argues that the television truly is a "boob  tube" in that it urges people to become stupid, can easily make people unmotivated so they remain stupid, and essentially can control our lives if we let it.  Television as Stupefying The exact statistics are unknown to this particular writer, without doing research, but it can be assumed that people who are not in school, working, or sleeping,  are likely watching television. Someone may argue that an individual who is doing housework is not watching television, but that is often not the case as television is turned on  and watched intermittently by those doing household chores. And, some people even have televisions in their bathrooms and certainly their bedrooms, indicating that as long as people are within view  of a television they will likely watch it. In addition, when people mindlessly watch television it is more likely the case that what is on television is not conducive  to learning. People generally watch sit-coms, dramas, and other shows which are designed only for entertainment purposes. The majority of television watched is not educational but rather material that is  designed to help the viewer escape. With that in mind we must examine what happens when we escape into television. There are the very active parts of our brains,
