    strong as employers scramble to try to make a workplace is more inviting, to provide workers with more days off, a better salary, and a great deal of praise in  order to retain them. Yet even with out these perks, the lowest-level skilled worker or arrives at work every day, does his  or her job well, leaves the company, and then returns the next day to do it all over again. Many industrial psychologists continue to wonder why this happens.  Michael Burawoy, a professor of sociology, attempted to find this answer out for himself by spending 10 months on the shop floor of  Allied General, a company in Illinois. The results of that experiments ended up in a book called Manufacturing Consent. In this book, Burawoy attempted to answer or certain  questions about why workers work hard and why they consent to their own exploitation. This paper will examine Burawoy, his experiences and  insights. The paper will then examine what Burawoys critics have to say about his work. The paper will conclude with the writers own analysis about the impact and  effectiveness of Burawoys work. Definition of Manufacturing Consent Michael Burawoy, in his book entitled Manufacturing Consent, posed some interesting questions. In  conducting is research, Burawoy a question and why worker is normally push themselves to advance the interests of the company for which they work (Burawoy, 1979).
