    when there would be great transitions in technology and the advent of factory life. New inventions were coming forth including the light bulb on a large scale, the automobile and  a multitude of other things people today take for granted. People walked or used horses or took trains, and then suddenly, things began to change drastically. And while technology would  change things, war would take its toll. World War I would arrive and that would shake the sensibilities of the Americans but it came and went and America was  really no worse for wear. The Roaring Twenties would see good times, and then prohibition, and the rise of organized crime was also a part of American life. Urbanization would  create coveted cities in America, like New York and Philadelphia and Los Angeles. By this time, unions were in full force and life was good. Life was perhaps a little  too good. People did not realize that while the good times were upon the nation, economically, things were shaky. They did not see the writing on the wall. The market  would crash quite unexpectedly in 1929 when things were going well. Something had to be done. The thirties saw social programs, and some argue that they were really not necessary  as corporate welfare was a reality. Companies had always taken care of the American people and they would continue to do so. And as the century unfolded, the mentality would  go from sound economics, to attention to human resources. What people wanted out of life suddenly became an issue. After the crash, some people lost all that they had.  There were suicides in greater numbers. Things were dismal. Suddenly, the corporation and the government were seen as giants that could provide solutions to Americas woes. The origins and the
