    firm. The research center is actually comprised of five distinct and physical centers. Hence, this firm has a variety of locations that logically share databases. It is known that this  research center utilizes MS Access and the sales department utilizes MS Exchange. MS Exchange is used by the Sales Department for tasks such as e-mail management. It is also utilized  so that the Sales Department will have web access for a variety of reasons. In todays day and age, most businesses require access to the Internet and this is especially  true in sales professions. Finally, in this case study, the programming department of this fictitious firm is Unix and Linux based. A student wanting to prepare a Memorandum to  analyze databases used by this company in the case study, ought to relay the reasons as to why the software is used along with ways in which improvements may be  made. A Memorandum might appear as follows: M E M O R A N D U M TO: ABC Company Staff FROM: Larry Smith SUBJECT: Database Management Concerns DATE:  September 1, 2004 It has come to my attention that there is a problem at ABC in respect to database management. Although thus far, the company has done well,  it seems with changes in technology and company expansion, improvements need to be made. Also, in order to properly service clients, data needs to be accessed quickly and properly.  Mistakes should be kept to a minimum. Hence, improvements recommended will go to procedure as well as possible changes in software. Certainly, more servers are required to store information as  the company grows. This is of paramount importance. The company of course is involved with managing data and at the crux of this operation is the database manager or administrator.
