The sight of the student, starting down the nose of Chinas communism almost seemed to underscore the dire circumstances under which most Chinese lived.  As a result of that picture, the western world came away convinced that Chinese citizens lived within an oppressive government and that China would need to adhere to "human rights"  before hoping to enjoy the good things that trade with America would bring. However, although the student and the tank made  an excellent photo opportunity, the real truth is that most people in China are happy with the way things are and dont care for change. They dont feel that they  are unhappy. This, then, is the controversy of human rights - is human rights a concept dreamed up by the United States as an attempt to force the world to  change to meet the thought of "what is right" by American standards? Or is human rights a genuine attempt to ensure that everyone receives their just rewards, and their just  rights? Exploitation of women, child labor, socialist regimes; according to various doctrine, the United States is convinced that these are violations of human rights. On the other hand, the country  that has these things may just consider it business as usual. Universal definition of human rights The overall definition of human rights  could be considered as that in which all humans are guaranteed toward specific freedoms; freedom of religion, freedom of religion and freedom from fear. Democracy is the basis for human  rights, or so says the myopic North American view. "Rights of individuals" the overall definition of human rights, at least, how the United States sees it.
