as well as critics, have many things to say about his work and their essential statement regarding the condition of mankind. Two such perceptions are examined in the paper which  follows. The first section illustrates how Vonneguts work seems to indicate that no matter the technology or social advancements made, men and women are inherently true to their nature. The  second perspective is that which argues Vonneguts work illustrates how mankind will inherently revel in chaos as it helps to destroy civilization and technology. In essence, man is on a  path towards his own destruction. Men and Women As mentioned, it has often been said, by critics and those who admire Vonneguts work, that he proves, repeatedly, that  men and women remain essentially the same, not changing their inherent nature, regardless of the technology and advancements made in the civilization that surrounds them. When we examine his story,  "Harrison Bergeron" we can find this statement to be fairly accurate. In this particular story we are presented with a society that demands people are equal. They do not  merely rely on human reason to see this through, but rely on a technological device which ultimately makes everyone begin to lose their identity. The bands make the citizens equal  in physical strength and intelligent. They are, by all accounts, supposed to be equal, even to the extent of the sexes. The society is one in which the people  are not allowed to have children through natural means. Infants are reproduced scientifically and artificially. Members of the society are not allowed to create life in the natural manner. However,  even after seemingly endless years of this type of technology we still wee women inherently desiring to carry a child, to give birth. And, we inherently see men wishing to
