site. Discussion A SWOT analysis is just what the initials imply: it is a tool that finds a companys strengths and weaknesses, and analyzes its opportunities and the threats it  faces. Although most SWOTs are done for a more traditional business entity, they are also done by webmasters for their Web sites, to make certain that the site is generating  the business it should. There are a great many components to the SWOT, so well identify only three of each. Well begin with strengths and weaknesses, which are under the  companys control (internal), then move on to opportunities and threats, which are external (What is a Web site SWOT analysis?, 2006; hereafter "Web site SWOT, 2006). Strengths are "those positive  things that lead to a successful Web campaign" (Web site SWOT, 2006). Strengths include things like being "listed high with the major search engines"; having a "strong online/off-line reputation" and  offering competitive prices (Web site SWOT, 2006). Amazon.com can say yes to all of these and more. In fact, it is so successful that people dont usually search for it,  they simply type in "amazon.com" and go directly to the site. The company has built a reputation for delivering almost anything a customer could want in a very timely  manner, and standing behind their goods and services, as well as standing behind third party sellers. Amazon.com has instant name recognition throughout the world. Its prices are almost always lower  than anyone elses, and perhaps most importantly, the site is nicely designed and easy to navigate. The company has a lot of strengths. Weaknesses to look for on a Web  site in particular include things like misspelled words, distractions like "moving graphics and off-subject content" and badly designed graphics, which can make the site look amateurish (Web site SWOT, 2006).
