the firms fiscal health. In addition to tracking the movement of stock itself (which determines investor confidence in the company), investors like to see what assets a company has on  hand and how it will use those assets. SYSCO Corporation, which has been around since the late 1960s, has a financial statement, stock  payout and dividend distribution that, for the most part, investors like to see. The purpose of this paper is to analyze SYSCO from the point of view of its financial  information and determine for ourselves if SYSCO is, indeed, a healthy company in which to invest. SYSCO is the largest food distributor in  North America (Hoovers Business Profiles, 2003). The company sells approximately 275,000 products to more than 410,000 restaurants, schools, hotels, health care institutions, and other food service customers (Hoovers Business Profiles,  2003). SYSCO distributes fresh and frozen meat, poultry, seafood, fruits and vegetables, canned and dry products, paper and disposable products, cleaning supplies, kitchen equipment and medical supplies to its accounts  (Hoovers Business Profiles, 2003). Restaurants account for nearly two-thirds of sales for this company - and although the restaurant industry overall has  suffered a downturn, people still like to eat out. Meanwhile, SYSCOs SYGMA Network subsidiary sells product to chain restaurants such as Wendys International (Hoovers Business Profiles, 2003).  Competition in this industry is fierce, and SYSCO must on a regular basis compete against well-known companies such as Alex Lee, Ben E. Keith, Cagles, Fleming  Companies, Gordon Food Service, Keystone Foods, MBM, McLane Foodservice, Nash Finch, Performance Food , SUPERVALU, Services Group and U.S. Foodservice (Hoovers Business Profiles, 2003).
