better and last longer under temperature extremes as well as under a wide range of traffic loads (Frye, 2002). Researchers have tried to improve on performance of flexible pavements  through a better understanding of fundamental chemical and physical properties of the various kinds of asphalt binders and mixes (2002). It is through the application of Superpave principles  that engineers and designers are able to customize the binder and mixture in order to make the most appropriate mix for a particular pavements environment as well as traffic conditions  (2002). Superpave is seen as something significant and the wave of the future. That said, there are some who want to change the mix already. While Superpave is relatively new,  there have been new technologies to crop up since its inception. In fact, a relativity recent study suggests that changes be made to Superpave so that new asphalt technologies  and materials will be able to be included (Hartman, 2002). While Superpave is good, that does not mean that new things are not on the horizon and will allow for  future improvements. It is also important to understand that while Superpave is viable even the way it is, that does not mean that it does not have to be tweaked  to fit specific situations. In fact, the idea of Superpave is that it be flexible. Many variables do determine what the appropriate pavement strategy for a particular location is as  one size does not fit all (Frye, 2002). A pavement that wears well in the Nevada desert for example could conceivably crack on a colder, busier Minnesota  highway that allows for a heavy daily volume of stop-and-go traffic (2002). Even within similar geographic regions under similar climatic conditions, the type of traffic can make a major difference
