This research proposal considers the problems of immigration and acculturation and provides a research study of populations in order to consider the psychological and psychosocial  variables that influence acculturation in the United States. This research proposal outlines a methodology for the proposal and integrates a regression analysis as components of the proposal plan.  Introduction Over the past two decades, the increase in immigration to the United States has led to concerns over the adaptations that populations make when they enter the  country as a part of their process described as acculturation. Individuals from non-Western countries often demonstrate the greatest difficulty in social acculturation and research suggests that this may be  a reason for an increase in alcoholism, substance abuse and poor socioeconomic conditions for immigrant communities. In attempting to address some of these social concerns relative to immigrant populations,  researchers have recognized the value of assessing the impacts of certain variables on the process of acculturation for immigrant populations. But it has been difficult to make definitive connections  between certain variables and distinctions in terms of acculturation in immigrant populations. As a result the study presented will attempt to make these connections, providing a valuable basis from  which immigrant social process and acculturation can be understood. Problem Statement Acculturation can be defined as: "the modification of the culture  of a group or individual as a result of contact with a different culture" (Psychology Glossary, 2002). This definition of acculturation is often utilized as a means of  assessing the process of acculturation for immigrant communities. In countries like the United States, where there is a large dominant culture, the process of acculturation takes on different characteristics,
