Structured interviewing, while highly effective in certain situations, can be unnecessarily limiting and thereby unproductive in others. II. JOB INTERVIEWING  Contemporary interviewing beyond the structured format draws out the untold aspects of an applicants work history so as to corroborate what is said in the interview with what has been  done in past work environments. This postmodern approach - called behavior descriptive questioning - asks the job seeker to create an image of his or her abilities through past  experiences, a correlation that anticipates similar behavior in the future as has happened in the past. Examples of such a line of questioning may include: * Describe a  situation in which you were responsible for overseeing a major capital facilities project * Describe a situation in which you were expected to make a professional recommendation to a board  about a major policy action * Describe a difficult budget decision you were required to make * Describe the most difficult personnel action with which you have been involved *  What actions have you taken over the years to assure that your workforce was representative of the community at large? * In which situation did you make the best use  of your technical or problem-solving skills? * Describe the most difficult citizen you dealt with last year * Describe the budget process you have found most successful in your past  work (Local Government Institute, 2008).
