The Problem of Ageing Wiring in  Aircraft. United Kingdom, November, 2001. To Use This Report Correctly,   The aviation industry is well known for the larger overheads it has to carry. One of the largest investments are the aircraft which it flies, and the more use  that can e gained form an aircraft the longer new investment is postponed and the greater the level of profit realised. It was projected in 1998 that by the year  2000 there would be, world wide, 2,500 aircraft still in service that had surpassed their original projected life span (Duke, 1998). The official of the airlines insist that this no  not a risk to the passengers or crew as long as the aircraft are maintained properly Duke, (1998). However, we also need to recognise that as an aircraft ages, even  within its projected life span there will be some failures. If this life span is then extended the failures rates are likely to increase.  One of the failures that has gained attention in the recent years has been that of the problem of ageing wiring. In May 1998 there was a government report  into the subject. Entitled "Tripwired?: Document Trail of Faulty Airplane Wiring Demonstrates Need for Comprehensive Reform", the problem of ageing wiring was investigated (Newswire, 2000). The report looked at the  development of aircraft wiring as well as making recommendation on how to prevent future failures. This report was published at a time before the public were aware of the problem,
