Amazon.com, with its headquarters in Seattle, Washington, began as  the earths biggest bookstore but it has evolved to become very nearly Earths biggest anything store. The main site offers the consumer millions of books, CDs, DVDs, and videos. These  account for 70 percent of Amazon.coms sales. They also sell toys, electronics, tools, prescription drugs and health and beauty products. In addition, Amazon offers a variety of services, including film  processing (Hoovers, 2001). Expansion has propelled the company in many diverse directions. In fact, the company owns parts of other companies that provide things like wine and wedding services, among  other things (Hoovers, 2001). Amazon.com has been a model for other e-commerce, Internet companies that place market share ahead of profits and acquire other companies funded by  meteoric market capitalization. Today, however, Amazon.com is focusing on profits (Hoovers, 2001). Founder, Jeff Bezos, and family members own an aggregate of 34 percent of the company  (Hoovers, 2001). Bezos describes the birth of Amazon.com. As Bezos was working on Wall Street, he saw that Web usage was growing by 2300 percent each year. He  left Wall Street and headed for Seattle. The year was 1994. The Earths Biggest Bookstore was launched in his garage. His first customers, his friends. His first product, books. The  idea was to create a place where anyone could find and buy any book they wanted. Customer service was a criterion for the new business. By 1995, they were selling
