When Captain George Vancouver appeared upon the Alaskan coastline, it was with great perseverance that he  modified native customs and literally revamped the inhabitants entire existence; coupled with this cultural penetration, however, was the assemblage of priceless ethnographic information that may otherwise not have been made  available to contemporary societies. Kings Vancouver: Cautious Collectors, inasmuch as it reflects a decidedly communicative ideology by representing the very cultural essence of its people. Without question, the student can surmise that the interrelated aspects  of education and communication appeared to be the cornerstone of this communitys existence; in spite of the fact that the ethnographic remains do no yield an exact interpretation of daily  life, the author brings forth the importance of what Hewitt did, indeed, salvage in order to gather enough information so as to understand the complexities surrounding the native Alaskan culture.  King indicates that the scarcity of Hewitts collection may leave as many questions as it answers, yet he also acknowledges that these findings have been successful in addressing many  otherwise unknown elements of the indigenous peoples way of life. Another important point in Kings article is addressing the manner by which native
