    the art world today. Students and professional artists alike are inspired by the intricacies of the work that came from Irish artists of the era. In delving through the Middle  Ages, it is prudent to evaluate Irish ornamental art as part of a whole movement of ornamentation as architecture was also indicative of that style. In researching this topic, some  areas related to Irish ornamental art will be broached in order to have a basis for which to compare , but the Book of Kells will be a focus on  this investigation that is as exciting as any in the realm of art. During the early part of the Middle Ages in Northern Europe, particularly in Ireland, the  Irish people developed their own artistic styles and traditions. The Irish Ornamental Style is indicative of this specific nuance. The style certainly has artistic and historical significance and the  Chi-Rho page in the book of Kells, for example, is just one example of that style. In general, from the seventh to twelve centuries, it appears that  the Irish did develop quite a different technique from what had been present previously. Obviously, form the title of the style, one can tell that ornamentation is a large part  of this model. The Irish often added spirals and curves. One might look at these as compared with modern art with its crisp, clear lines or simply look at the  gingerbread on an old American home. Indeed, ornamental work is busy, with many curves, stops and starts and details. Detail is a key component in understanding this type of work.  Sometimes, animals were used in the details. Some of the art was demonstrated in the creation of books. Church books required a high standard and were produced by
