    position of McDonalds and their overall performance the corporation can be examined using a SWOT analysis to look at their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats, and with a quantitative and  qualitative analysis. The organisation has a number of strengths. The products which are sold as a generally low price in most markets, which means that despite their purchased being reliant  on the presence of discretionary spending, they tend to be relatively unresponsive to economic changes (Nellis and Parker, 2006). The high level of brand awareness, which supports sales helps to  reduce the sensitivity to economic changes, as well as increased sales due to high levels of consumer confidence in the product (Kotler and Keller, 2008). The packaging and information support  sales, giving consumers a high level of information regarding their nutritional choices, which helped the company to be seen as transparent and ethical. The production method, which is based on  rapid production of a large amount of goods, is highly efficient and can satisfy a large number of customers in a relatively short period of time. All of these elements  brought together have created an attractive business model, which has also benefited from the organisations use of the franchise model to facilitate fast growth without the need for large amount  of capital investment. Active highly differentiated marketing supports both the company owned and the franchise stores and supports the strengths. There are also a number of weaknesses. The organisation is  large, and as such is relatively bureaucratic and slow to change in line with market shifts. This was seen following the super size me documentary, with a significant lag between  the negative publicity and the shift in product choices to facilitate social changes. The nature of the work, based on scientific management, and requiring only unskilled labour, can create a
