    tremendously since the time of ancient Greece, human beings still endeavor to sway others to their point of view, and to do this, they employ the same steps outlined by  ancient orators, such as Aristotle and Cicero. The following discussion uses the framework of classical rhetorical analysis to evaluate an essay by Iris Marion Young, which is entitled "Making  Single Motherhood Normal." In this essay, the author uses the classical rhetorical (CR) framework most effectively. In the exordium (introduction), Young brings up the famous Dan Quayle blunder when  he attacked a fictional character (Murphy Brown) for having a baby out of wedlock. This is an excellent way to begin her argument since this incident ultimately worked against traditional  interests since it simply made the Republicans look foolish because, as Young points out, the Democrats were able to easily counter it. In the narratio that follows, Young lays  out the parameters of the problem, which is that rhetoric pertaining to "family values" survived the election and appears to be rapidly gaining adherents. She goes on to list the  widespread support that has formulated in recent years for privileging traditional two-parents families, pointing out that this swing in public opinion represents a potential threat to gay and lesbian couples,  as well as the group that she will focus on in the rest of her essay, single mothers. This is a lengthy section in her arguments structure, as Young also  goes on to refresh the memory of the reader on how single motherhood has been blamed for all sorts of societal ills. Young, as far as this writer can  determine, appears to skip over the propositio and the partitio, which are sections that outline what is follow, and goes straight to the "meat" of her argument, the confirmatio, which
