    for the reader. In the end, he is a likable old man who is just being himself. In the book, some of his journeys are real and some are imagined.  While that is to some extent the case for many senior citizens, Fausto is different. He has the presence of mind to experience the imagined trips rather vividly, and it  is almost like real journeys. His adventures are sometimes just short trips. He would go out to get something, but Arias portrays his mundane life as something rather interesting. For  example, when his caretaker left, Fausto dressed himself and found his deceased wifes old pink cape and put it on (Arias 40). It was, of course, very inappropriate and some  of the things that the protagonist does on this journey that involves a bus ride is also inappropriate. Can one forgive an old man, or hold him accountable for his  deeds? The reader is likely forgiving because, as they say, he "grows on you." Fausto does politely tell his wife that he is about to borrow her cape (Arias 40).  Then he leaves the house, with his cape in tow, gets onto a bus and sits next to two women who are wearing halter tops and shorts (40). He nods  at them and makes a "clicking sound" with his tongue (40). Clearly, it is a "come on" to the women who were scantily clad. No matter how they are dressed,  his behavior is certainly rude and inappropriate. One might call him a "dirty old man." Yet, one should also note the pathetic nature of this old man who has nothing  left. After all, he is about to die. He tells them that they are beautiful and a verbal exchange ensues. Although it begins in quite a nasty and undignified manner,
