effective military response to the situation in Iraq, saved lives due to the efficiency with which the campaign was conducted and allowed the US to achieve their goals quickly.
"The air assault that launched the Gulf War began one day after the expiration of a United Nations deadline for Iraqs withdrawal from
Kuwait" (Tenth Anniversary, 2002). The first planes used were U.S. Air Force F-117s and they were used to bomb Baghdad (Tenth Anniversary, 2002). Their effectiveness lied in
the fact that they were stealth aircraft able to evade radar (Tenth Anniversary, 2002). The F-22 combines stealth with the ability to cruise at supersonic speeds (Tenth Anniversary, 2002).
They epitomized technology and modernization (Tenth Anniversary, 2002). Not only were these airplanes technological wonders, but information technology
was also impressive in Desert Storm and the combination of these two contributed to the success of the air campaign (Gunther, 2002). But, with the improvements in both information
technology and precision aircraft comes further responsibility in terms of using that information and technology accurately and using it ethically (Gunther, 2002).
For instance, while it was evident in Desert Storm that the "smart bombs" were able to precisely target a location better than ever before in history, it also
