    the unwilling victims the act of violence can never be undone. Given this, then, it would be correct to state that the great empire of Rome attained its strength and  glory from the victimization of the women and innocents, surrounding the region. This act was vindicated in all of their tales, even finding its way into their myths and legends  of the Gods and Goddesses. After all, if the Gods and Goddesses condone rape, then who is mere man to question their ways? The story of the rape of the  Sabine women begins with the state of the Roman empire, itself. Having come into the region with legions of men, they had, had no forethought toward colonizing and settling the  area with their own families. In essence, they were without women. According to the legend they respectfully requested from their neighbors the permission to intermarry with their women. In all  of the surrounding areas, they were rebuffed. This angered the men. So, instead, they laid a trap and invited all of the Sabine citizens to a great event, along the  lines of the Olympics. Once everyone was having a good time, the maidens were abducted one by one. Romulus was the mastermind behind this plot and so the area was  called Rome. Therefore, given the circumstances of the story, Rome, one of the worlds greatest civilizations was built on the act of rape. However, this should not shock anyone who  has studied Roman Civilization, as Romans tended to perpetrate this taking at will in nearly every facet of their lives. A good example would be their predilection to take over  the Greek mythology and Gods and give them Roman names. Grecian areas were renamed with Roman names. Rituals and customs attributed to the Greeks were now Roman customs. The stories
