are subjective due to the nature of human thought, however, if we choose an article regarding recent events we may look at this from a range of perspectives.  In a recent article published in the Financial Times there is a report by Martin Boer that looks at the way that the International  Criminal Court may grant immunity to UN peacekeepers in order for the US to continue to provide peacekeeping troops (Boer, 2002). The US is not a signatory to the International  Criminal Court, and it appeared unless some action was taken they would be withdrawing their peacekeeping troops for different parts of the world in order to avoid any potential prosecutions  (Boer, 2002). The article tells us of a new proposal that will allow the ICC to continue intact, and also retain the USA peacekeepers with the ability for all non  signatory nations to gain immunity for twelve months starting from July the first. This may then be extended, but applications to extend the immunity for further twelve month periods will  be considered on an individual basis (Boer, 2002). If we look at this from a realism perspective we first need to understand what this perspective means. Realism may be  seen as a conservative ideology (Newman, 1998). In a realism perspective we may see that the position of the US is the right position, as they are asserting their own  primacy, and in realism it is the nation state that is the most important, There is an acceptance of other organisations such as ICC, but the main players are seen  as the nations rather then the originations (Newman, 1998). Sovereignty is seen as the ultimate power, and as such for a realist there should not be any organisation that supersedes
