Investigation" is the reporting of research which is undertaken in an area where it is felt there was a lack of research with the aim of comparing two population with
multiple sclerosis to assess the differences that are seen in the two age groups in terms of the physical and mental functioning as well as quality of life.
The article is presented with a very clear, if short abstract, that outlines the purpose of the study, it is interesting to note that
there is also the posing of an hypothesis in the conclusion of the abstract that maybe supported by the evidence but is not proven, as it is stated that "Older
individuals may undergo a psychological adjustment process enabling them to cope with physical impairment" [emphasis added]. The overall presentation of the article
is one that meets the basic criteria of reliable research. The presentation of a literature review looking at similar studies is a usual first step in primary research of this
nature (Lester, 2004). This review indicates that this subject has not been studied in the past, and other research which has touched on the issues has had a sample that
is to biased to yield meaningful results. The methodology is given and the data presented in such a way as to be
repeatable and the research is presented to demonstrate that there was a solid methodology chosen, as such this is a convincing report. The overall impression is that the this is
