    Nursing Research, the research was undertaken using a qualitative methodology. The aim of the research was investigate the challenges faced by carers of people with Alzheimers Disease and other dementia  conditions in providing a safe environment order to assess the potential of the transtheoretical model of health behavior change (TTM) to be applied to this problem of the design of  interventions. The research was undertaken using a focus group approach, the sample drawn from those caring for patients with different degrees of dementia. It may be argued that this  is a valuable study, by collecting data from those who are directly involved in care and have had to make adaptations to the environments in which people with Alzheimers disease  and other dementia conditions live. Although the main aim is the assessment of the TTM the article also provides useful primary research on the concerns of the carers, and not  only the way in which they have to adapt the environment for their charges, but the process of that adaptation. The article starts out with some background information on the  problem which helps to justify the need for further research. There is a wealth of research that indicates challenges in providing safety in the home and individuals suffering from dementia.  The background literature review sites a wide range of sources, including research dating back to the 1980s in addition to research published in the 21st-century. Much of the literature indicating  a problem and outlining the main issues, such as safety provisions in terms of wondering, falls and household accidents such as burns or fires, appears to have been well established  in literature for a number of decades. The authors give the impression from the information that is presented that it is the later research, building on earlier research, that considers
