A key process in research is often a literature review or a literature survey, or a literature survey. When looking at the article "Managing Identity: Identity Work, Personal Predicaments and  Structural Circumstances" by Watson (2008) published in Organization, the article may be seen as consisting of two methodologies; the first is an in-depth literature review or survey, followed by the  use of a case study methodology. It may be argued that any research which takes place with reflect the quality of the methodology, for this reason assessing methodology should  be an important aspect when assessing the results of any research article. Watson (1988) starts the article with an in-depth literature review to Cooper (1988), states that a literature  review "uses as its database reports of primary or original scholarship, and does not report new primary scholarship itself. The primary reports used in the literature may be verbal,  but in the vast majority of cases reports are written documents. The types of scholarship may be empirical, theoretical, critical/analytic, or methodological in nature". A literature review will examine all  these different sources of credible literature, and correlate them in order to describe, summarize undertake some form of evaluation of the research which is ready taken place (Cooper, 1988).  While an in-depth literature review is a standard chapter with in academic dissertations, research articles were often have very concise literature reviews, to give background and support the approach adopted  for the existing study. Watsons (2008) article contains a lengthy literature survey, and considering the nature of the case study that follows it may be argued that the value of  the inclusion is high. When considering how and why a literature review takes place there are numerous reasons, many of which may be seen with in the Watson article.
