and philosophers later and several ideas came to be accepted as the norm. One of those ideas was the Kelley Covariance Model of Attribution. The attribution ideas that came about,
and there are quite a few, all state that there are causes for a persons actions. In other words, most times a behavior is the result of a specific incident
that is typical for all the people who exhibit the behavior. For example, one might say, a simplified scenario might have a person who continues to marry or date men
who are aggressive and oppressive. In most of the women who chose mates such as this, it is commonly held that their fathers were also controlling and aggressive. This model
basically states that there are three sources of information that are necessary in order for one to judge behavior. Those are distinctiveness factors, consistency, and consensus. Each factor has specific
sub components that influence the decision of the person when making a choice or preference for something. Kelleys model is used to determine if the persons decision was made due
to internal pressures or external pressures. An example of an internalized pressure is that of a fear of failure. Suppose in order to insulate himself a student decided not to
study and instead went to see a movie or went out with friends all weekend. Thus he has provided himself with an excuse that is external to mask the internal
fear of failure. Kelleys model is about how a person infers certain things such as social perception. For instance, if a person is aggressively competitive in his or her behavior,
