When one examines the literary masterpiece of David Malouf, there is no question that he not only employs the masterful technique of critical thinking as a primary element  of his writing, but he also utilizes it as a way of expanding his readers understanding of Australia itself. Remembering Babylon provides Maloufs reading audience with a significantly better  understanding of his homeland by way of incorporating critical thinking, a technique that requires one to delve beyond the superficial layer of existence in order to gain entry to the  deeper presence of what Malouf attempts to portray. "Critical literacies involve people using language to exercise power, to enhance everyday life in schools and communities and to question practices  of privilege and injustice" (Comber 168). The characterization of Remembering Babylon is particularly associated with Maloufs previous attempts at establishing a symmetrical ambiance  of critical thinking throughout his works. It can readily be said that the author creates characters that are both believable and fully developed, which is a feat not easily  accomplished within the vast requisite of critical thinking. The fact that Malouf is completely able to represent his characters in such a fashion as to give the reader a  sense of connectedness speaks volumes regarding the authors inherent talent for blending his homelands history with the often overlooked association with the use of critical thinking. Indeed, Malouf is not  only successful at establishing concrete characterization in his critical analysis of Remembering Babylon, but he is also triumphant at portraying these characters as both finite and composed. This quality  not only lends considerably to the believability of the characters but also to the overall structural composition, which, if this does not exist as it does in Remembering Babylon, leaves
