a worldwide program. In many ways these developments have reflected the needs of customers, but they have also been a maturation process for the company. To understand the
company we can perform a SWOT analysis on the company at each of these three stages. Strengths Stage 1; The main
strength at the beginning must be seen as the technical knowledge that lead to the development of the Media Composer. This was an innovative product that gained a first mover
advantage which was then leveraged to gain market share. Not only was the technology sound it was a development that meet the needs of the market. Innovation and first mover
advantage are seen again with the Film Composer Stage 2; When company has been growing well there are often difficulties in retaining
the same competitive edge in terms of new development and competitive advantages. The level of research and development remains high as first mover advantages and increased functionality are still goals
that are achieved. The company wanted to grow, and as a core competency they develop the skill of acquisition and merger, gaining new technology and customers with the acquisition of
SofTECH Systems and Basys Automation Systems, Inc. news room systems in 1993. In 1995 acquisitions included Elastic Reality, Inc, Parallax Software Limited and 3 Space Software Limited to give
the company access to markets where there was a large potential; the newsrooms, and where they had complimentary products. These acquisitions added to the core competences, and with the
