While one would think that Avons business must be booming as the  2000s emerge, a case study suggests that it is losing its edge. Carro, Mockler & Gartenfeld (2006) provide a case study on Avon Products, Inc. for analysis. In the context  of the case study, it is learned that Avon had not done very well in the past several years prior to 2000, when new president Andrea Jung looked at statistics.  Growth had been declining and Jung had to decide whether or not to make a deal with Sears and J.C. Penney to sell with them (Carro, Mockler & Gartenfeld, 2006).  Many ideas were considered by this new leader, and the questions posed by the case study are: " What type of product line extensions or divestitures should Avon undertake? If  the company ventured into retail outlets, which would best suit the companys current structure and future goals? How could the company create a consistent and strong brand image?" (Carro, Mockler  & Gartenfeld, 2006, p. 2). First, it pays to note that the company has been around for more than a century and while it had thrived during hard times, due  to its low pricing, contemporary times present new challenges. One challenge is the fact that it is a technologically oriented age where people work and shop online and rarely answer  the door for the occasional salesman. In fact, new laws prohibit unsolicited phone calls and few go door to door anymore. Avon representatives do have to have net presence, but  its business is largely what it was in the old days.
