definition, myth is not a reflection of reality. At the same time, there are people who refuse to step on the cracks when walking down a concrete path or who  will not go out when the moon is full. These superstitious, or myths, are a part of many peoples lives. Of course, many individuals only go along with a few  of these modern--or sometimes old--myths because they have always been with them. They do not really understand the significance of the superstition, but figure it is better to be safe  than sorry. Although most living in todays postmodern world do not establish myth to the same degree as did earlier peoples as there is now science, myth lingers. It is  not peculiar to indigenous cultures but permeates the broader social landscape. Myth has significance in society. Additionally, myth for the Aztecs who lived long ago held a great deal of  meaning. The Aztec people clung to myth and believed that if they did not participate in certain ritual they will be doomed. Allan and Lowenstein (1999) express a similar sentiment  as they relay detailed information about a people who were largely superstitious. Today, people who believe such things are called something beyond superstitious. They are often deemed psychotic by the  institutions that are common to modern society, something that demonstrates that everything is relative. Still, it should be noted that Aztecs have not completely died out nor have their beliefs.  Knab (1995) writes on people in the region who use witchcraft in modern times. Some evidence he uncovers tells of practices in the 1920s, for example, that seemingly did lead  to human sacrifice (1995). Although in any culture, myth takes on added significance if it originates in that particular culture, for the Aztecs, myth was a way of life.
