    the Tri-State Area. In this paper, well examine what the owner currently has, the challenges he faces, and what hell need to improve his current system. Overview/Tri-Cities  Tri-Cities Furniture is a business serving the Endicott, Binghamton, and Johnson City areas. They have approached you, the computer consultant, for assistance in upgrading their  computer operations so the owner is able to track sales, profits, expenses and other information. The business currently has a computer -  an ancient IBM Systems 5110, one of IBMs earliest systems - that the owner (Albert Mendoza) purchased from another furniture dealer on the advice of his accountant. This computer -  the companys only one - is used to print furniture price tags, store inventory records on furniture throughout the three-store chain and to maintain records of installment payments. The computers  software was developed by the other furniture dealer, but the software doesnt seem compatible with Tri-Cities operations. For one thing, the software was developed to handle only one operation, as  opposed to the three operations that Tri-Cities has. The computer is mainly operated by Ray Silva, who divides his time between operating  the computer and selling the furniture. Ray processes the inventory and receivables on the computer, but the companys bookkeeper, Alice, doesnt use the computer for balancing accounts because the software  is incapable of performing this function. Because no one really knows anything about the software or computer, if anything goes wrong, a  consultant must come from Syracuse to fix any problems. His daily rate is $350, not including mileage. The consultant is used because no one in the Tri-State area understands this
