As well as changing and enabling companies an entire sector providing the goods and services has developed, with powerful companies emerging providing both he hardware and the software. The  companies have faced many challenges, just as any company in a maturing industry where advantages of cost are difficult to gain, and increasing complexity of a market also necessitates mergers  and acquisition as growth strategies. If we look at the computer industry, and the leading computer supplier in the US we need to look to Dell, a company seen as  both innovative and dynamic. If we wish to look to performance of the company there are many measures that can be used, market share, brand value and recognition or financial  measures. The advantage of financial measures is that they may be seen as more solid to investors in terms of giving information about the performance that results in value that  can be passed on to the shareholders. However, we also need to remember that at any stage accounts will always be historical information, out of date by the time they  are published, there are many variables that will result in different figures, and there are also many measures such as environmental or ethical measures, that are not included in the  accounts. If we want to assess Dell and its financial performance a brief overview of the company and its origins would be valuable  to place the findings in a more specific context and also to give a general understanding of the company, then a financial analysis can be understood with regard the way  the company operates and has developed.
