Hence, benchmarking is brought as an idea whose time has come, and  according to authors, that it should be implemented in the boardroom as well as executive offices. Authors relay five critical applications which are that the process allows  executive officers and directors to know where their corporations stand as opposed to the best, and benchmarking is a practical tool for creating a fast-learning organizational culture that is dedicated  to continuous improvement. The third application is that benchmarking is good for strategic planning in order to attain market leadership and that it is a true breakthrough technique that allows  one to accomplish organizational restructuring, reengineering or redesign. Finally, benchmarking is a wonderful tool to assist board members in the performance of their duties of corporate governance and oversight.  In comprehending where a particular corporation stands versus the best in the business, benchmarking is an important leadership responsibility. Benchmarking is also seen as an essential leadership skill today  and an example regarding Du Pont is presented.
