Loved by her supporters as much as she was hated by her adversaries, Evita understood how to play the political game in order to  reach her objectives; her association with husband Col. Juan D. Peron, who ultimately took the role of president, forged an alliance that served to wholly benefit the Argentine people.  "Ambitious, ruthless, untiring, clever and strikingly beautiful, Maria Eva Duarte de Peron had in large measure many of the qualities needed to lift her in a dozen short years from  obscurity to fame, wealth and power on the unpredictable currents of Argentine political life...Senora Perons ascent and her important role in governmental affairs and propaganda were all the more remarkable  for the contrast that they presented to the conservative social traditions of Latin America, where women previously were seldom seen, and never heard, in public life" (Anonymous PG). II.  HER RISE TO POWER Evita, born May 7, 1919 in the Buenos Aires village of Los Toldos, was the youngest of five children born to a poor village landowner.  After her father died during her childhood, Evitas mother moved the children to Junin and established a boarding house. When she was old enough to venture out on her  own, Evita - whose beauty helped open many a door of opportunity - sought an acting career in Buenos Aires. Evitas strength of character and determination was paramount to  her many life achievements, the most successful of which early on brought her to a premier radio station -- Radio Belgrano - where she quickly moved up the financial ladder  of success from thirty-five dollars a month to one thousand dollars a month and then finally seven thousand dollars per month, culminating in 1943. Combined with her film career
