    on to work at IBM, but as he pondered his first position, Ready wondered whether or not he would fit in with the corporate culture and whether or not his  boss would like him. He wondered how the job would really go, and whether or not he would be able to get applicable raises and promotions. These are normal  first day jitters. At the same time, after hiring Ready, his boss Nancy Westwood had the same concerns. Did she do the right thing in hiring Ready? Will he fit  in with his peers? Will he work hard? On both sides of the fence, meeting the needs of the employee as well as the achievement of an organizations objectives, is  the goal of human relations in any organization. If a student writing on this topic were Olin, what would he do to assure success? What would one do to assure  Olins success if he or she were Nancy? In writing on this topic, a student will want to look at the traits that are conclusive to success. Then, a student  can apply those characteristics to Olin. Nancy can also assist Olin in keeping on the right track. It should be noted that IBMs corporate culture is rather rigid. It is  not a creative organization but rather a mainstay in the computer industry. While Olin will likely do well if he has the qualifications that the organization has sought, questions linger  in terms of his fitting in with the corporate culture. In part, getting along in an organization requires socialization within the group, both inside and outside of working hours. Many  corporate cultures include an unwritten rule that the people meet at a certain bar or club after work on Friday nights for example, or that they go out for two
