    of 150 multiple-choice items, as it tests every aspect of knowledge that is considered crucial in a specific critical care area of specialization, i.e., adult, pediatric or neonatal (AACCN, 2009).  The following proposal is designed to aid a student in developing a strategic plan that will serve to persuade nurses working within an intensive care unit (ICU) to seek  CCRN certification. The first element of the proposals conceptual framework recognizes that the nurses of the ICU will need to be highly motivated to pass this exam, which involves demonstrating  to them why CCRN certification is beneficial to them, both professionally and personally. Why nurses should be concerned with achieving CCRN certification: If a nurse who is thinking about  obtaining certification asks a peer who has already obtained certification about making this move, "youll never hear a hint of regret" (Mee, 2004, p. 6). In her editorial on this  topic, Mee relates how she first began thinking about obtaining certification in the early 1980s when she first began her career as a critical care nurse. It seemed to her  at the time that the more she learned within her clinical practice experience, the more she realized how much she had left to learn. Therefore, "despite having heard about the  grueling exam Id have to pass to earn my CCRN," she bought the necessary study materials, sent in an applications and "hit the books" (Mee, 2004, p. 6). As this  indicates, the principal motivation for any nurse in attempting to pass the CCRN exam derives from that individuals high personal values, as the nurse strives to achieve a professional recognized  standard of excellence. As Mee anticipated, passing the CCRN was difficult, as this involved months of preparation and intensive study. As she left the large hall where the test
