The government, note these censor-supporters, should regulate what is being shown  on television, published in newspapers and books or downloaded from the Internet. The problem, however, in doing so, is that we end up creating a "slippery slope." If one, for  example, is to ban the downloading of porn from the Internet, what is the next step? The banning of ordering lingerie on line? The banning of lingerie ads in magazines?  The problem with censorship is that it feeds on itself. Once one thing is banned, its just a matter of time before the next ban on something totally innocuous comes  along. As a result, we end up with a "Fahrenheight 451" society - one in which even reading an innocent book is a crime. Basically, it is not up to  a democratic government to censor any type of information. Its up to us, as intelligent people, to filter it through our own values. Censorship,  in many shapes and forms, has been around for centuries - whenever there is something that someone disagrees with, this person assumes that everyone should disagree with it.  It has been suggested, especially during the past half-decade, that one main reason for supporting of censorship is to protect childrens sensibilities from the potential effects  of sex and violence, at least until theyre old enough to handle the ramifications of being subjected to such media. Author Marjorie Heins, in  her book Not In Front of the Children: "Indecency, Censorship, and the Innocence of Youth acknowledged that her original purpose for writing the book was to support her stance for
