THE RISE OF CONSERVATISM First elected Governor of California in 1966, Ronald Reagans subsequent two terms in office set  a much-needed precedent of conservatism on the heels of the demise of American liberalism. The challenges that faced Governor Reagan were such that his constituency was counting on him  to clean up the mess that liberal attitudes had caused over the past few decades, but he was up to the challenge and was ultimately responsible for shedding new -  albeit conservative - light upon the state of California. Indeed, the rise of conservatism in California centered around the administration of Governor Ronald Reagan, whose efforts brought him acclaim as  on of the states most valuable leaders. The ultimate resurgence of conservatism as it relates to Reagans administration was by way of a lack of hierarchical organization that critics  deem so essential to a nations overall political and economic structure. One might readily surmise that making the switch to conservatism was not such a significant task in light  of all the problems that plagued California; however, when issues such as overwhelming poverty and the impending breakdown of American liberalism converged at the same time, the challenge would either  shatter Reagans political strength or establish him as a respected and resourceful leader.
