Introduction Ely Callaway founded  the Callaway Golf Company1 with the aim of providing superior quality golf clubs. The firm has seen great successes, but it has also faced challenges as a result of the  changing environment. To assess the firm, its current position2 and the industry needs to be assessed, after this the primary and secondary problems may be identified potential strategic alternatives considered.  2. Situational Analysis The macro environment will have an impact on any organization; they are influenced by factors such as political, economic, social and cultural influences. 2.1 Political Influences  Callaway Golf Company has been impacted by political environment. The increasing level of globalization in the opening up of markets, such as Asia and  China, located a number of opportunities for selling golf clubs internationally. The same time as providing opportunities, companies facing is levels of competition from Asian manufacturers. In many instances these  may be breaching patent or trademarks of the company, in some instances these may be sold at prices of 75% lower than the companies own products, which is the potential  to be facilitated through low cost manufacturing in Asia. The physical situation was also making it possible for many of the companys competitors to reduce the cost with the outsourcing  usually through offshore companies, of manufactured components, for example many manufacturers with all utilize the same shafts. The reduced trade barriers facilitated by international trade agreements had an impact. 2.2 Economic  Influences Economic influences were also seen. Callaway manufactured and sold premium of clubs, and later undertook related diversification into other areas such as golf balls, driving ranges exception. The
