    of its market segment. Things are worsening and the CEO is searching for ways to turn things around. This paper takes the form of an analysis and memo  to the CEO describing what these methods might be. Analysis There are four key players here, CEO Cliff OConnor; software engineer Kelly Thomas; Marketing Director Pat Lambert and  VP of Product Development Chris Martinas. Each of these people is reacting very differently to the companys situation. Assumptions: Cliff OConnor assumes that AcuScan can develop a new  product and a market for it, despite the fact that theyve not done so since the company started up. Kelly Thomas assumes that it will take at least a year  to develop a new product, not the six months that hes been given. He is wedded to that viewpoint and cannot be budged on the subject, and is becoming  very difficult to work with because of his intransigence. Pat Lambert assumes the direct opposite: that the new product can be developed and put on the market in six  months, though she can see that it might be necessary to release a "patch" later. Chris is stuck playing peacemaker between Kelly and Pat; he assumes that if they can  work together the problem will be solved. Arguments: Cliff OConnor argues that the development of a new product is necessary: "... with Pats creativity and Chriss expertise, Im  confident that we will recapture our position as a market leader with our technology." Cliff makes the statement in the first memo he sends out explaining the need for  further budget cuts, and his plans to introduce a new product. The illogical part of his statement is the fact that hes expressing a hope that things will go
