in treatment as an out-patient. However, she is sent to the facility to treat an addiction problem based on the fact that she is once again in trouble with the
law. Perhaps the largest problem with this case is that she claims to be hearing voices. If this is a symptom of a serious mental condition, then the case study
becomes more complex. This woman will need psychiatric help and likely be on medication to treat the disorder. To further complicate matters, the counselor is not equipped to handle a
serious mental disorder and will need to access a higher level of the system. This case study provides a look at how a counselor might evaluate a patient coming into
a facility for drug treatment. II. Case Study In a case study submitted by a student, a 35 year old women is referred to a hospital by
a judge. She had been arrested for theft. This woman has a history of alcohol abuse and is also a crack user. She claims that she is no longer using
drugs and in fact is currently attending NA (Narcotics Anonymous) meetings. During the intake, in substance abuse agency, it is learned that the client "hears voices." For ease of discussion,
