a full social life, she went to college with much enthusiasm. That all faded when during the middle of the semester, she realized that she could not maintain good grades  as she had in high school. College proved to be much more difficult than expected. Tyisha finds herself cutting classes when tired and this has happened quite a bit.  What can she do so that she does not fail the semester? What must she do to receive the education she needs to have a productive future? Light (2001) suggests  that academics be balanced with extracurricular activities. As if she were in high school--thinking that school would still be a breeze--Tyisha looked for social outlets. It is a good  thing to do of course. There is a great deal of pressure for Freshman to find friends. No longer do they have the same support system they did through high  school. Many students who live on campus are alone for the first time. They have no friends or family to help them and they must carve out a new social  life. This is fine, but students sometimes do not put enough emphasis into academics when they are entrenched in a new lifestyle. It seems that Tyisha has fallen into this  trap. Reynolds (1996) suggests that students write personal mission statements and also to get help with organizational skills. The author further notes that students should learn time management techniques (1996).  Hamacheck (2002) is also big on organization and claims that students should set goals, organize their things and most importantly, manage time well. She also suggests that students should  avoid procrastination. Indeed, much time is lost due to putting things off. Hicks (2002) further supports these authors findings and also believes that time management is critical to success.
