    Summary of the research paper:

    A 4 page paper. The scenario is of a severely abused 5th grade girl. Background is provided, including some of the adjustments made at school for her. Two boys consistently verbally tease her, make derogatory comments and/or deliberately bump into her in the cafeteria line. The essay describes the disciplinary actions that have occurred and offers alternatives to eliminate this safety issue. No Bibliography.

    education services, including the school counselor. Liz and her siblings have been living with their grandmother, who is a former educator, for three years. Even with the support, Liz continues  to be impulsive. She often reacts aggressively when she believes she is being attacked or mistreated. Other times, Liz will simply leave the building and walk home or hide. Once,  she climbed about 20 feet up in one of the trees in the school yard, which resulted in two teachers and a new principal standing at the base trying to  talk her down. The former principal of the school, who had an excellent relationship with Liz, was called as was her grandmother. The former principal, John, was always able to  calm Liz and get her behaving appropriately again. The new principal, Daniel, simply does not have the same kind of caring or rapport with any of the students who have  special needs. Liz has improved dramatically, however. She continues to improve in terms of appropriate behaviors and resolving disagreements with peers. There are two boys who consistently tease Liz,  calling her names and making other derogatory comments. They also accidentally bump into her in lines, such as the cafeteria line. This is the type of incident that leads to  a safety issue for Liz and the other students. Other students report that Liz usually either ignores the first act of whichever boy is doing the teasing or the bumping/pushing  or she tells them to "knock it off." A repetition of the boys actions results in Liz hitting, shoving, yelling, and or punching the boy. The outbreak has children scattering.  On at least two occasions, another child in the line was knocked down and hurt. One cafeteria helper attempted to disengage the two children and she was also hurt as
