    his complete mortal existence, these four states of life act as a guide for Rama to follow with considerable ease. Each stage is broken down by various times during  his life in order for him to anticipate each forthcoming segment. Subscribing even more passionately to the doctrine of do unto others, Rama incorporates this tenet with his hero  characteristics as a means by which to obtain merit toward his afterlife, which is earned and evaluated by the charitable acts he demonstrates in this life. Karma, the "physical,  verbal, and cognitive action of past lives" (Silva 31), is a critical measure of Ramas hero characteristics, inasmuch as he aspires to be the most charitable and benevolent person possible,  ultimately earning beneficial Karma in return. Establishing values is an integral component of personhood and another important aspect of Ramas hero characteristics.  Indeed, it can readily be argued that the concepts of valuing and values are the fundamental basis of humanitys duty and obligation, which is recognized as being significantly divergent from  the rest of the animal world. Characteristic of humanitys constant quest for the concept of meaning, the journey of understanding has come to represent myriad things to myriad people,  ultimately rendering any universal explanation virtually impossible. The problem with meaning as it applies to value and valuing is attempting to successfully pinpoint a single yet comprehensive connotation to  its concept; however, this cannot be achieved as long as any two individuals harbor decidedly different interpretations. Clearly, an individuals moral standard is as it relates to his own  existence, in turn reflecting an individuals association with his or her concept of meaning. With survival at the forefront of any persons ethical recognition, it is not always easy
