    on using this paper properly! Introduction Laurie Lees story, "Cider with Rosie," is, for the most part, a story about Lees childhood. It is a rich and colorful tale  of one family in a time gone by, a time that will never be seen again, a time of innocence. It is a story which takes place in a small  village in England and a story which presents us with many different characters. Lee does an excellent job at conveying the personalities we encounter, although it can be easily argued  that the best conveyance of character is offered through his narration of himself. In the following paper we examine the narrator, as well as the characters he describes, arguing that  Lee has an innate ability to convey characters. The Narrator "Cider with Rosie" is "a story related in such mellifluous detail, the characters lushly painted against a multi-hued  Cotswoldian afternoon, a loving account of poor people living simply and well, doing each other no great harm, taking care of their own in a sort of muddled congenial order"  (Khargie lee960930.html). It is a story that offers us numerous characters, some being seen only briefly. It is, in other words, packed with a variety of people, all of whom  Lee seems able to detail in vivid imagery, presenting us with powerful characters. In examining some of his various characters, we begin with the Squire. In this scene the narrator  and several others are conducting a session of Christmas caroling: "Our first call as usual was the house of the Squire, and we trouped nervously down his drive....Suddenly, on the  stairs, we saw the old Squire himself standing and listening with his head on one side. He didnt move until wed finished; then slowly he tottered towards us, dropped two
