    Cindy Sherman's film stills are meant to depict the assumed gender roles of women within the modern American society. The purpose of her photographs is to make people take notice and reconsider the social norms and, or, expectations which define gender roles.     These would include all areas of social interaction, including language, access to political decisions and, or, office and what is considered as appropriate behavior within the family, and, or,  the community. They are often based on stereotypes and preconceived ideas of what is appropriate and inappropriate for the ideal. Cindy Shermans film stills are meant to  depict the assumed gender roles of women within the modern American society. The purpose of her photographs is to make people take notice and reconsider the social norms and,  or, expectations which define gender roles. She focuses on the role of women. In the following proposals for a set of photographs based on Shermans work, the idea  is to highlight the roles and stereotypes that men occupy. Untitled Film Still #43 (1979), has a young woman leaning against a juniper (cedar) tree with her leg  on a branch. Her feet are bare, her dress appropriate for the desert scene which looms behind her. One arm is straight down and resting on the same  branch as her foot while the other is outstretched behind her. Her dress is feminine, a simple shift with straps. The proposed photograph would utilize the same  setting, however, the model would be male and dressed in a costume of the old west, complete with chaps, spurs, boots and a cowboy hat. He would be standing,  feet slightly apart, firmly in front of the tree. The background hills (red rock monuments that look like Shiprock, New Mexico) would be more prominent. He would be  looking directly at the camera instead of off into the distance. A red rose, signifying the feminine aspects of the man, would be laid at the foot of the
