    go to politics, the economy and the people. Some national environments are more conducive to growth than others. In China for example, there is a great deal of opportunity even  though some might believe that its government type is too risky. Of course, risky environments can provide more growth than stable ones. In focusing on China, a bit of background  is in order. It seems that the Chinese economy had suffered in 1975 due to the power struggle which would ensue (Minami, 1994). By 1988, the economy would  overheat and cause high inflation (Minami, 1994). Of course, the global economy has had an effect on China and during the mid-1990s, China would experience some effect from the Asian  economic crisis which began with the fall of Thailands baht. Yet, as other Asian economies did, China would do better after the centurys end. Today, Chinas economy is doing much  better. It is clearly a good place for expansion as the government begins to enjoy the fruits of capitalism, despite its communist disposition. In a case study submitted by a  student, Citigroup is portrayed as having displayed environmental adaptability. At the same time, according to the student, the environment in China is unique. The question which looms is whether or  not Citigroup has really displayed a sense of adaptability in its expansion there. On one hand, it does appear that Citigroup has displayed a sense of adaptability. New regulations as  China became a member of WTO did impede growth in the banking industry in general. Yet, Citigroup was optimistic and one of the first banks, according to the case, to  provide approval for foreign currency deals for its Chinese clients (Pearce & Robinson, 2003). This was a step in the right direction and demonstrates Citigroups desire to do what
